Mission and Vision
Our department aims to cultivate qualified archaeologists who research and question, aiming to provide high-quality archaeology education on national and international platforms. Students trained in this field have the opportunity to transform theoretical knowledge into practical experience by participating in scientific archaeological excavations conducted throughout Turkey. Our department’s primary goal is to integrate prospective archaeologists into society as individuals who are capable of utilizing modern archaeology-related technology at the highest level, possess a thorough understanding of information access, possess scientific research skills, and possess a strong understanding of historical preservation.
Students who graduate from the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Letters, Dokuz Eylül University, may find employment opportunities in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, Cultural Heritage Preservation Boards, public and private museums, and KUDEP units within municipalities. Graduates who meet the required application requirements can continue their master’s and doctoral studies in the Department of Archaeology under our Institute of Social Sciences, as well as in other departments, upon successful completion of the exams.
Our department currently has 393 undergraduate students enrolled in the undergraduate program, 266 in formal programs and 127 in evening programs. To date, our department has graduated 852 students, 523 in formal programs and 329 in evening programs.
A total of 42 students are currently enrolled in the master’s and doctoral programs. Our total undergraduate and graduate student population is 435.
